How to Do Magic Tricks For Fun - The Tricky Tumblers

Magic is an excellent way of entertaining your friends and family. It is also very useful in business and can be used as a great "ice-breaker" when meeting new business contacts.

This series of articles will teach you some simple tricks, that you can perform anywhere, without any special equipment.

Tricky Tumblers

This is a great trick for the bar, restaurant, or dinner party. It will literally drive people mad as they try to work it out! They never will.

How The Trick Appears To The Audience

You place three glasses on the bar in a row.

The glass in the middle is mouth upwards and the other two glasses are face down.

You say the aim of the game is to turn the three glasses upright in three moves

However, the cardinal rule of the game is that each of your hands must turn a different glass on each move.

You count "one" and turn over two glasses.

You change hands to two other glasses and turn them over on "two".

You say "three" and with another switch of hands to different  glasses.

All three glasses are now mouth upwards.

However, no matter how hard people try, they can never duplicate your remarkable feat.

Even when you do it slowly, they still cannot do it!

How The Trick Is Done

What makes this trick so hard to follow is the rule that each of your hands must always touch a different glass on each move. To make follow this rule you must also cross your hands at one stage.

So, even when you are doing it normally, it is hard to follow. However, if some smart person starts to catch on, you can introduce a trick that will make it impossible.

Starting Position

Start with the three glasses in a row in front of you.

The middle glass is face up and the left and right glasses are face down.

Turn the left and center glasses (the left is now face up and the center is now face down)

Cross you hands and turn over the two end glasses.

Uncross your hands and turn over the left and middle glasses.

The three glasses are now mouth upwards!

You offer to repeat it a few times, until people get it.

Then you ask them to try.

The Sting!

The last time you end up with all the glasses mouth upwards, just turn the middle one face down.

So, the middle glass is face down and the left and right glasses are face up.

This is a false starting position and makes the trick impossible.
